Dear Parents, 

June has sped into our lives and the summer has finally arrived in Beijing. The school is well-underway in planning for the next school year; 2021-2022. As such, I am writing today to introduce the 2021-2022 school year calendar. You will notice that the school will be following the Chinese holiday schedule and some adding some Saturday class days. This is to meet the mandatory requirements of the host campus, Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University. Additionally, there are two weeks in December where your students will attend classes while the SPAS foreign staff honor their Christmas break traditions. These classes are planned to be conducted by local staff for all students, international and Chinese alike. 

You will also notice there are no trips planned. This is a precautionary measure for our students’ safety as we are unsure, at present, of the feasibility of travel for Fall and Spring trips. Though we are all hopeful the conditions will get safer around the world and that the world will heal from this pandemic, allowing us to continue on as normal, we are mindful of safety first ahead of our decisions. 

Next year, your students will be able to enjoy a hybrid-style learning experience. Instead of being completely online and isolated, your students will observe the classroom in a live stream very day with the local students in attendance. Your students will appear on a large 72” TV screen in the Beijing classrooms and be able to ask questions and interact with the teacher and their peers. Teachers will differentiate their assignments to keep your students engaged while learning at the same pace as the classroom. At this time, I cannot give you an estimation on how long hybrid learning will last. Though it is not the same experience as being in the actual classroom, it is a means of bringing the best quality lessons to your students while we wait for your students’ return.

안녕하십니까? 6월이 저희의 삶에 빠르게 다가와 마침내 베이징에도 여름이 도착했습니다. 북경세인트폴은 2021-2022년 학년도를 위한 준비가 잘 되어가고 있습니다. 이에 다음학기 수업에 관련하여 공지 드립니다. 

2021-22학년도에는 중국내의 교육과정 의무조건을 충족시키기 위하여 4일의 주말 수업이 추가됩니다. 그리고 12월 크리스마스를 기념하는 기간 또한 지난해와 달리 모든 학생들은 현지 교직원들과 수업을 계속하게 됩니다. 

매 학기 진행되던 필드트립(Field trip)은 학생들의 안전을 위하여 당분간 계획되지 않습니다. 저희 학교는 전 세계적으로 더 안전해지고 Covid-19로부터 모든 일상이 정상적으로 되돌아가길 희망하며, 모든 결정에는 우리 학생들의 안전을 가장 염두에 두고 있습니다. 

우리 학생들은 학교 교실에 있는 학생들과 동일한 수업을 제공받게 되는 기존 온라인수업에서 좀 더 발전된 하이브리드 스타일의 수업을 받게 됩니다. 수업을 하시는 선생님은 교실에 있는 72인치 대형 TV 화면을 통해 온라인 수업을 듣는 학생들을 교실에 다른 학생들과 함께 대면하게 되며, 학생들은 마치 교실에 있는것과 마찬가지로 수업 중에 질문을 하고 선생님 또는 다른 학생들과 함께 대화할 수 있게 될 것입니다. 선생님들은 하이브리드로 참여하는 학생들이 현지 교실에서 참여하는 학생들과 동일한 속도로 수업 내용을 따라오고 참여할 수 있도록 과제를 차별화할 것입니다. 현재로서는 하이브리드 학습이 얼마나 오래 지속될지 예상할 수 없지만, 이 수업방법은 학생들이 안전하게 학교에 돌아올 때까지의 최선의 수업을 가능하게 하는 방법이 될 것입니다.
